Putaway

Adding to the extensive functionality of our Goods Inwards routine, there is now the option of a separate Putaway procedure.

The object is to ensure that the warehouse staff do actually put the goods in the designated Bin.

The Goods Inwards routine operates at three levels, according to the size of the client’s warehouse:

• A small warehouse may choose to ignore Bin Locations entirely, or record Bins for some items only.
     
• A bigger concern may use Bin Locations, but put the goods away and then tell the computer where they have been stored.
     
• A large warehouse would use the third option, where the computer determines which empty bins the incoming stock will fit into and automatically assigns bins on that basis.

Putaway operates in conjunction with this final option, with the warehouse staff putting the items away whilst the supervisor books in further deliveries.

The Putaway routine is geared to work using handheld barcode scanners.

Goods Inwards will print barcode labels which are attached to each pallet or carton.

The operative then scans the barcode on the pallet/carton and is told where to store it.

He then has to scan the Bin barcode as confirmation that he has arrived at the correct destination.

The computer records who did the Putaway. 

Therefore, if the goods still end up in the wrong place, you know who to shoot!
