When a Manchester-based importer and distributor was looking to upgrade its software in 1999, they had just had four years-worth of bad experience to tell them what they didn’t want. Having previously been wooed by a company that promised a good product backed up by significant resources, the RoDO Group had been dismayed to discover that the reality didn’t match the marketing hype. Bill Brierley, Managing Director of RoDO, takes up the story: "We had problems from day one and decided some four years later, after much frustration, to dump the system - at great cost! We approached Profitmaster and a decision was made to run with them."

Developing relationships with clients is an essential part of any business - and Profitmaster was quick to establish an association with RoDO that would enable it to address the company’s business challenges. As an importer and distributor of decorative sundries and protective clothing, RoDO understands the importance of such relationships. "The main reason for choosing Profitmaster was the ease with which I could speak with those responsible for programming. They always consider the implications of what I'm asking for and often come back with ideas for improvements - rather than just blindly doing what I've asked. This level of service is imperative as we have learned that having only a single point of contact often results in directives not being followed and little or no progress being made," reports Bill.

Profitmaster’s software is designed specifically for the wholesale and distribution markets, and can support 4-200 users. It comprises 20 integrated modules including stand-alone functions such as sales ledger and payroll. It has been commended by businesses throughout the UK for its ease of use.

"Every module within the system has the same look and feel," says Bill. Furthermore, clients frequently comment on the usefulness of the system’s ‘hotkey’ function, which enables users to save time by hopping out of one area of the package and into another. As Bill explains: "Pressing ‘Shift F3’ allows you to find everything you need to know about a customer, without visiting any menu, as does ‘Shift F4’ for stock enquiries. And these facilities are always there, regardless of what you are doing."

Profitmaster puts its customers at the centre of the organisation. This is certainly appreciated by people like Bill. "Business never stands still and as such the software driving the business needs to change as the company develops. Profitmaster is always willing to listen and will make those significant changes," he says.

"We shall continue to work closely with Profitmaster in enhancing a product that is already well ahead of the competition."
